Review highlights
Based on 320 reviewsAB BBQ is widely recognized as a charming, somewhat hidden barbecue spot that delivers consistently high-quality food and service. Reviewers frequently highlight the moist, flavorful meats—particularly the ribs—as a standout feature, noting the authentic smoky aroma that enhances the dining experience. The restaurant’s limited hours and small-batch offerings contribute to its appeal, often leading to early sellouts. Customers appreciate the family-owned atmosphere, describing the staff as courteous and attentive, which complements the overall welcoming environment. While the sauces and side dishes receive mostly positive remarks, a few note minor areas for improvement, such as sauce consistency and the dryness of certain bread items. Cleanliness and service speed are consistently praised, reinforcing AB BBQ’s reputation as a reliable, enjoyable barbecue destination in Cheyenne.
Unassuming hidden gem. It’s literally hidden in a campsite and could be hard to find without google. Fast service. Meat that is NOT dry—surprisingly hard to come by at bbq places these days. I would probably give the food a 4 myself, but my husband really loved it and says it’s a 5. You can see the smokehouse with the smoke rising and smell it—really helps get your mouth watering! All the while, you can see workers in aprons going back and forth between the smokehouse and the small main restaurant building. We were disappointed about the ribs being sold out, but it’s understandable at a bbq place less than an hour before closing. We had a brisket meal and a pulled pork meal. We had baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and corn. I liked the coleslaw, and the other sides were fine. The meal also came with a role and buttery spread. My husband said the bbq sauce was one of his favorites ever. It wasn’t my style, but that’s okay. The meat was yummy on its own with a little bit of salt. Delicious coconut cream pie, one of my favorites ever, and yummy cherry pie! Service was great. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and on top of it. We were in and out in half an hour, including eating with four little boys. It was quite cheap for a bbq place, or for a restaurant in general for that matter! We only spent $42 for 2 meat plates with sides and 2 slices of pie.
In the South, this place is probably 4.5 stars, but in the West, it is a full 5 stars. Service: Outstanding Cleanliness: Outstanding Meat: Outstanding, moist, smoky Sauce: Once choice (there should only be ONE), quite good, balanced, but a tad thick, should be thinned a little with vinegar Coleslaw: Outstanding, flavorful Beans: Doctored up canned beans but they taste good Rolls: A bit dry, seem like an afterthought, recommend they simply use white bread slices Lemon pie: Excellent, light, although the crust is probably storebought. Sweet tea: It's okay, but it could be a tad darker and sweeter. Highly recommended.
Baby back ribs were incredible. Fall off the bone and very meaty. Done inside or outside.
What a treat having a BBQ restaurant in AB Campground. The food was excellent. The restaurant is family owned the staff was helpful and courteous. We picked up take out last night and I know we'll be back. If you're ever in Cheyenne stop by, you won't be disappointed. They are only open 4pm-8pm and I'm sure they sell out.
Went here to celebrate my Birthday and this place is amazing! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. Definitely will be coming back! Make sure you order early because this is small batch homemade greatness and they do sell out.
This place was so amazing! The food was beyond my expectations and top tier. The atmosphere was so inviting and so were the employees. They made the best recommendations for us and got our food to us hot and fresh in under 10 minutes. I truly felt like I was in a family members house. I got to know everyone in there and truly enjoyed my time. 6/5 place ⭐
Unbelievably good BBQ. Jane the owner came over and connected with us, and our service from Jayden and Race was also fantastic. We tried it all and it was affordable, delicious and served quickly. AB Barbecue doesn’t miss - would give 6 stars if possible
